Welcome to Acoustic Muse’s local music page, which is local to Charlottesville, VA and the surrounding area.  There is no shortage of great musicians in this area of the country and Virginia is actually the starting point for some of the purest forms of American Music.

Some call that old time music, other’s call it country or fiddle music.  Acoustic Muse hopes to share some thoughts and knowledge about our interesting music history, and would like anyone to share some of their stories about the great musicians they know who live or have lived here, and that could even be your grandfather.

We all know about people like Dave Mathews, Corey Harris or John Mccutcheon but that’s not the whole story.  Share with us the untold heros of our local music scene, about folks not lucky enough, or for some reason have not been able to make it into the main stream music market.

Of course, Dave Mathews and the other’s were all unknown beginner’s and it’s great to hold them up as important members of the local music scene, and their early tales of the road to sucess so, share them too.

Let’s hear your stories, and comments about the musicians and songwriters that you know about.

  • Let’s talk about Corey Harris who has a concert coming up on April 22, 2011 at the Jefferson Theater here in our lovely town of Charlottesville. Check here for more info

Who remembers meeting Corey Harris playing on the Downtown mall in Charlottesville back in the ’90′s? Yes, there was a time, while Corey was at UVA, that he would earn tips playing the blues on the streets of Charlottesville. It wasn’t just any blues either, it was Delta Blues and seeing him was like taking a time trip back to the ’30′s. He was playing Robert Johnson songs like no one had heard anyone play, except for the original recordings. Fred Boyce was running the Prism Coffee House during those day and asked Corey to play there and from then on, it wasn’t long before Corey Harris was creating his first CD and moving on to a great career in music. What’s nice is that Corey took a lot of great local musicians on tour with him allowing the world to know what kind of musicianship is really lurking about in Charlottesville.
